Ubisoft has finally admitted what many Assassin’s Creed fans have suspected all along. That’s right, a remake of the iconic Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is actually in development. After years of leaks and speculation, the company teased the project with the title Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, subtly confirming the long-standing rumor in a new franchise update blog post.
Get ready to become a pirate again

Instead of publicly announcing the remake, Ubisoft chose to playfully tease it. In a blog post, Assassin’s Creed franchise head Jean Guesdon referenced the series’ famous motto and hinted that the rumors surrounding Black Flag may have some truth behind them. We also get artwork featuring the Black Flag Resynced title, which serves as the first official approval of the leaked project.
First released in 2013, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise thanks to its pirate setting, naval combat, and open world exploration. The title has sold over 11 million copies and is often considered one of the best in the AC franchise.
Other Assassin’s Creed projects are also in the works.
The new Black Flag teaser is just one part of Ubisoft’s larger update on the future of the franchise. The studio also briefly mentioned other projects currently in development.
- Code name Hexe: A dark, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience set in a “significant” historical era.
- Code name Invictus: This is a new multiplayer PvP project being developed by the For Honor team.
- Assassin’s Creed Jade: This is a mobile RPG set in ancient China.
In addition to this, Ubisoft has also released an update for Assassin’s Creed Unity, which will finally receive the 60fps update on the latest consoles.
There’s no official word yet on a release window for Black Flag Resynced, and the company is staying tight-lipped about gameplay details or platform plans. But for now, Ubisoft’s message is clear. Pirate adventures are coming back.
