The Punjab government on Monday announced a dedicated helpline for Punjabis stranded in parts of the Middle East as tensions and conflicts in several Arab countries continue to disrupt travel and daily life.
Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Dr Ravjyot Singh said the state government has activated the NRI wing control room after receiving reports that Punjabi tourists and residents in the area were facing serious difficulties.
“Due to the conflict in the Arab country, many Punjabis in the country are facing hardships,” the minister said in a media interview in Chandigarh. “Today we are releasing the NRI Wing contact details. If you are an individual or any member of your family is stuck in this country, please contact us immediately.”
Coordination with Center
Dr Ravjyot Singh said the Punjab government was in constant contact with the Ministry of External Affairs to provide assistance to the affected people as quickly as possible.
“We are in contact with the Foreign Office and are doing our best to provide all necessary support as quickly as possible,” he said.
24 BY 7 Control Room Activated
The NRI Wing under the Punjab government has set up a 24-hour control room to receive distress calls and coordinate support for their families in Punjab and those stranded abroad.

The announcement was made at a press conference organized by the Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party in Chandigarh.
State officials said families with relatives in the affected Middle Eastern countries should contact them without delay and that all possible efforts would be made to facilitate assistance through diplomatic and official channels.
