PlayStation 5 Pro gets a significant graphics upgrade with AMD technology.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is getting a notable graphics upgrade, and it comes courtesy of Sony’s long-standing partnership with AMD. As Sony shared in an official blog post, the console’s image upscaling technology will soon be getting a major refresh.

At the center of the news is an upgraded version of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), Sony’s AI-based upscaling technology. The new version was co-developed with AMD and is derived from the company’s latest FSR 4 upscaling technology. Sony has revealed that an improved PSSR will be released soon, with Resident Evil Requiem confirmed to be the first game to support it. This update is said to provide clearer picture quality, reduced ghosting, and better detail reconstruction compared to the original version.

A glimpse into the future of console graphics

The new PSSR update isn’t just a small tweak. Sony describes this as the result of months of further improvements built on AMD’s FSR 4 technology. Upscaling has become one of the most important tools in modern gaming, and it’s important because it allows consoles to deliver higher resolutions and smoother frame rates without the need for much more powerful hardware. Instead of indiscriminately rendering every pixel, AI-assisted upscaling reconstructs a high-resolution image from low-resolution frames. The result is improved performance while providing near-native visual quality.

For PS5 Pro owners, this upgrade could mean sharper visuals, better performance, and more futuristic graphics as new games begin to adopt the updated PSSR technology. And because the upgrade is system-level, it has the potential to benefit multiple upcoming titles rather than being limited to a single release. As Sony and AMD continue to work together, the PS5 Pro may feel like a living platform that improves over time. With more PS6s reportedly on the way, it’s reassuring to see the PS5 Pro getting a meaningful performance boost in the meantime.
