Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be a citizen of an eligible Commonwealth country, have refugee status or be a protected person in the UK.
  • You must have permanent residency in a developing Commonwealth country.
  • You must hold at least Level 1 of Upper Level 2 (2:1) standard by September 2026 (lower qualifications may be considered if you have relevant experience).

How to Apply for Federal Distance Learning Scholarships:

The application process consists of two main parts: You will need to apply to your university and the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC). Both steps are required.


Step 1: Choose an approved course and apply to UK universities

  • First, choose an approved Master’s program in the Commonwealth Distance Learning Programme. Only certain courses from participating UK universities are eligible.
  • Apply directly to the university and make sure you meet the admission requirements. Each university may have its own deadlines and English language regulations.
  • In addition to applying for the scholarship, you must also obtain admission to an approved course.

Step 2: Apply through the CSC online system

  • All scholarship applications must be submitted through CSC’s online portal called CSC Central. CSC does not accept applications via email or postal mail.
  • You must register with the system. During registration, you must have access to your smartphone or a second email account as the system uses two-factor authentication (2FA).
  • Once you have entered your details, you will receive an email containing your application reference number and password. Please keep this email safe as you will need it each time you log in.

Step 3: Complete the application

You must provide the following in your application:


  • Details on undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications
  • Information about your employment history
  • Names and details of three references (one must be your current employer, if applicable)
  • Detailed description of development impacts
  • Academic and career planning
  • personal statement
  • Information about leadership and service

Step 4: Upload supporting documents

  • Upload all required supporting documents in correct format as directed by the system. Please make sure everything is complete before submitting.
  • Modifications cannot be made after submission of the application.


Step 5: Submit before the deadline

  • Please submit your application before 16:00 (BST) on 31 March 2026.
  • We recommend applying early as the system can get crowded closer to the deadline.
  • After submission, you can log back into the system to view your submitted application.
