HEC Chinese Government Scholarship 2026-27: Fully Funded

The China Government Scholarship (CGS) 2026-27, supported by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, provides a unique opportunity for Pakistani students to pursue higher education in China. For 2026-27, 75 scholarship places will be available for Pakistani students, 35 for undergraduate (Bachelor’s) programmes, 25 for Master’s programs and 15 for Doctoral (PhD) programmes. This plan gives students access to China’s best universities and professional programs in a variety of fields.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be eligible for the HEC Chinese Government Scholarship 2026-27.

  • Must be a Pakistani or AJ&K national. Dual nationality holders are not eligible.

  • You must be in good health.

  • Applicants must have completed the required prior degree at the time of application.

    • Undergraduate: Intermediate/A-Level/FA/FSC (12 years) and under 25 years.

    • Master’s degree: Bachelor’s degree (16 years old) and under 35 years old.

    • PhD: Master’s degree (MS/MPhil) and under 40 years of age.

  • Applicants must meet the admission requirements of their chosen Chinese university, including academic qualifications and language skills.

  • Applicant is not currently eligible for any other scholarships.

  • All applicants must provide USAT or HAT test scores.

    • USAT for undergraduate applicants.

    • HAT for Masters and PhD applicants.

    • The minimum passing score is 50 out of 100.

Note: Applicants seeking professional degrees in medicine, engineering, nursing, architecture, law, veterinary medicine, etc. must be accredited by the respective councils of Pakistan (PM&DC, PEC, PNC, PCATP, PBC, PVMC, etc.). Medical and dental applicants must follow the latest PMDC guidelines.

Important information for applicants

To ensure a smooth application process, candidates should keep the following key points in mind:

  1. Application Guide: Applicants should carefully read the Chinese Government Scholarship Information System Guide and the Chinese Government Scholarship Application Guidelines. All required documents must be submitted online.

  2. Funding Restrictions: CGS recipients cannot receive concurrent funding from any other government or university scholarships (except one-time scholarships). Concealing other funds could result in dismissal and a three-year ban.

  3. College Selection: Applicants must research target colleges, check CGS program eligibility and complete application details accurately.

  4. College Contacts and Pre-Admission: Contact your preferred college to confirm eligibility, testing, interview or pre-admission process. A prior acceptance letter or equivalent is highly recommended.

  5. Language skills:

    • Master’s/PhD program taught in Chinese: HSK level 4 or higher.

    • Ordinary/Advanced Scholar Program taught in Chinese: Minimum HSK level 3.

    • The requirement for Chinese language study or a degree previously completed in China may be waived.

  6. CSCA Requirements for Undergraduate Applicants: All undergraduate students applying in September 2026 must register for and take the China Academic Competency Assessment (CSCA) on December 21, 2025. A valid score report must be uploaded to the application system.

  7. Application Platform: Applications must be submitted through both of the following methods:

  8. Pre-admission documents: Upload one or more pre-admission documents issued by the relevant university. Acceptable documents include:

  9. Withdrawal Policy: Students who refuse admission after being selected will receive a formal warning and be banned from participating in CGS for three years.

  10. Document Translation: All non-English or non-Chinese documents must have a certified English translation.

  11. Extension Requests for Current Scholars: Existing CGS holders wishing to extend their studies under the 2026-27 quota must provide an official letter of approval from their host university.

  12. Preliminary review and final evaluation:

  • The preliminary review is conducted at the cultural office of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan.

  • CSC reviews recommended applications for eligibility and forwards them to colleges and universities for placement. Applicants with a prior admission letter will be given priority in selection.

How to apply

Applicants must complete a two-step application process.

Step 1: Apply through HEC portal

  1. Create and update your profile on the HEC Scholarship Portal.

  2. Select ‘Study Abroad Opportunities’ and submit your application.

  3. Please make sure all contact information is accurate. HEC uses this to communicate with applicants.

  4. Please retain a signed printed copy of your submission.

Step 2: Apply through the CSC portal

  1. Visit Campus China.

  2. Select Type A – Agency Number 5861 (HEC/Pakistan).

  3. Download and sign the completed application for your records.

Required: Must be submitted to both HEC and CSC portals. Failure to submit to either platform will result in disqualification.

Required documents

Applicants must prepare and upload the following documents (attested and translated if applicable):

  1. Notarized educational documents (degrees, transcripts), CNIC, residency and equivalency certificates (IBCC/HEC, if applicable).

  4. Copy of valid passport (valid until March 1, 2027).

  5. Foreigner physical examination report (including blood test results, valid for 6 months)

  7. Prior acceptance letter from a Chinese university (optional, but preferred for Masters/PhD programs)

  8. 2 letters of recommendation (master’s/doctoral degree only)

  10. Legal guardian documentation (if under 18 years of age)

Note: A preparatory year in an undergraduate program is required unless the applicant holds a valid HSK level 3 certificate. Master’s and doctoral programs are offered in both Chinese and English.

Language Requirements

Applicants should check the language requirements of their chosen university.

  • Program taught in Chinese: HSK 4 or higher (Master/PhD)

  • General Chinese Study Program: Minimum HSK 3

  • Programs taught in English: Proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL)

Language exemptions are available for regular scholars applying to Chinese language programs or students who have previously completed a degree in China with Chinese as the medium of instruction.
