meIt is quite traditional for the Bengali imagination to create catchy and humorous slogans that rhyme with the mother tongue and English. But the latest products flooding our social media timelines seem to have a long shelf life. Despite being such an entertaining goof, it has swept the entire zeitgeist, at least within the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). It reads, “Akashey batasey positive energy / Naam ta mone achhe na: Abhishek Banerjee.” Yes, the air seems to be full of positive energy. And the party faithful credit much of that energy to the anointed heir, Mamata Banerjee’s 37-year-old nephew. Generally reticent towards the media, he is sometimes very sharp when he allows himself to be shouted at, and when speaking from the Opposition benches in the Lok Sabha he is now caustic and sarcastic when speaking in front of the young and very audible TMC contingent. He also knows how to transmit aura around him. It is not the splendor of a descendant inherited for free, but the halo of hard-earned authority of one who fought and won on the dusty battlefields of Bengal. Some of them are said to have been inside TMC as well.
