She then had to gain weight for her role in the TV show City of Dreams – Season 2 (2021). Shriyam had to gain 14 kg for her role in the film Sumo Didi (2023). She ate 2500 calories every day to achieve 97kg to play Hetal Dave, India’s first professional female sumo wrestler. According to her trainer, Shriyam weighed 83 kg when she was cast as Hetal. She underwent months of physical training to maintain her muscular tone while gaining weight. She also had to learn to wrestle when she weighed 97 kg, which was difficult. Regarding her extreme weight loss and gain, Shriyam said she felt out of control and the process affected her physical and mental health.

To emulate Hetal’s looks and skills, she had to lose weight and undergo rigorous training. She trained with celebrity trainer Sahil Rasheed and did sumo training with Hetal Dave. She said this in an interview:

She taught me the classic sumo squats that we perform every day. She also taught wrestlers how to act, how to look at their opponents when they enter the ring, and how to prepare to fight when their opponent is bigger than them. It was a difficult experience, but worth it in every way.”

The first TV series in which Shriyam appeared was City of Dreams – Season 2 (2021), which aired on OTT platform Disney + Hotstar. She played the character of Tanya Mehta opposite actor Ankur Rathee. She was nominated for Filmfare’s “Best Supporting Actress” award for her role as Tanya, but did not advance to the final round.
