6 types of extreme animals that can survive an apocalypse

We learned a lot from science class. And one thing we are sure of is that nature is constantly trying to kill us, and one day everything will become extinct. Apocalypses come in all shapes and sizes, but everything from catastrophic climate change to nuclear war, comet impacts and viral pandemics will have a hard time wiping out these animals. But no matter how hard nature tries, it will never bring down the animals listed here.

1. devil bug

Only recently discovered in 2011, this nematode species was found to live up to 2.2 miles below the Earth’s surface. This blows away previous records for multicellular organisms by a mile. These bugs spend their lives in complete darkness, drinking 12,000-year-old water and eating simple bacteria.

You can survive: Extreme pressure, lack of oxygen, high temperature.

2. Himalayan jumping spider

The exact opposite of the devil bug, this spider holds the record for an animal living at a higher point (6.4 km above sea level) than any other spider. They can survive for long periods of time without food, sub-zero temperatures, and a distinct lack of atmospheric pressure. The Himalayan jumping spider’s only source of nutrition is small insects blown over the mountains by strong winds.

You can survive: Low pressure, temperatures below freezing.

3. immortal jellyfish

These jellyfish have the ability to revert to their infantile stage under adverse conditions, making them virtually immortal. There seems to be no limit to the number of times you can go back to infancy. Unfortunately, they are very vulnerable to predation and disease throughout their immature and small stages.

You can survive: Aging process.

4. red flat bark beetle

Native to Alaska and northern Canada, these insects produce antifreeze proteins that prevent their blood from crystallizing, allowing them to withstand temperatures up to -150 degrees Celsius (-238 degrees Fahrenheit). The blood is also fortified with glycerol to further prevent freezing.

You can survive: Extreme cold.

5. pompeii bug

These deep-sea bugs live only in thermal vents on the ocean floor. Their tails are on their vents and they achieve temperatures up to 176 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the Pompeii bug pops its head out of the vent to catch its prey. This causes half of the body to experience temperatures more than 100 degrees colder. Their resistance to heat is thought to be due to their bodies being coated with special bacteria, which can provide the bugs with a significant level of insulation.

You can survive: Extreme heat, temperature changes.

6. tardi grade

These millimeter-long segmented animals can survive almost anything. Temperatures between absolute zero and 300 degrees Fahrenheit are not a problem. 1200 times atmospheric pressure? The tardigrade just shrugs. Since they can survive 10 years without water, they don’t worry too much about dehydration. Another non-factor is 1,000 times the lethal dose of radiation to humans. Scientists even sent the tardigrade into space in 2007, testing just how resilient it really is. What are the results? Most of the tardigrades that went on missions returned unscathed. Plus they’re strangely adorable.

You can survive: Basically anything.

Science and the study of our planet show that nature is fickle and constantly trying to kill us in one way or another, but there are certain animals that have the ability to face nature and emerge victorious. According to a report from the Real Clear site, there are six animals that have the ability to take Mother Nature’s attacks and fight back. We have listed all of these animals in the article above. We share YouTube videos that help you understand the content.

I hope you liked the article. Share this article with your friends and family and let them know that no matter what the extreme circumstances are, you and everyone will die, but these creatures will survive anyway.
