WarnerMedia expands free HBO Max deal to HBO subscribers who pay through Apple’s services

WarnerMedia and Apple have reached an agreement to provide free HBO Max access to existing HBO customers who subscribe to the service through Apple. Free access starts when a new streaming service starts on May 27th. Deadline.

AT & T, which owns Hner Max, and HBO Max, the elder, have changed from the original announcement, saying that only customers who subscribe through hbonow.com and claim directly by HBO can receive a free upgrade.

This deal includes both customers who signed up for HBO Now through the App Store in-app purchases on the iOS version of the streaming app, and customers who signed up for HBO through the "channel" feature of the Apple TV app.

As part of the contract, HBO Max is integrated into the Apple TV app with regard to content offers and, like HBO Now, offers new subscribers the option to register through Apple's store.

The new contract appears to only apply to Apple customers. This means that anyone who subscribes to HBO through other means like Amazon Prime will not be able to get HBO Max for free at least for now.
