Trump says China coronavirus toll ‘far higher’ than admitted

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said on Friday that the actual number of deaths from the coronavirus in China was "much higher," even after officials released a new count doubling the death toll in Wuhan, where the pandemic began.
"China has just announced a doubling in the number of deaths from the invisible enemy. It is much higher than that and much higher than the United States, not even close!" Trump tweeted.
Previously, the city of Wuhan admitted errors in counting its death toll, as the count abruptly increased by 50 percent due to growing global doubts about Chinese transparency.
Authorities said they had added 1,290 deaths to the count in the city, which has suffered the vast majority of deaths officially recognized in China from Covid-19, the disease caused by the virus.
