Using interactive videos for corporations
The term "interactive video" may sound scary to some corporations, especially if their goal is to produce professional content for their students. However, the tools available to corporations today make it easy to create powerful and professional interactive videos without a big budget.
Case study: How to record a video using your smartphone
To illustrate how to best harness the power of interactive video for corporations, let's take a look at the following video: Click this link to see an example of interactive video.
Always shoot horizontally
You will notice that this video was filmed horizontally. Remember that most corporate eLearning content will be viewed on a computer, which uses a horizontal layout. By recording your video horizontally, you will ensure that you use as much screen space as possible. It will also maximize the free space you have to add interactive elements.
Don't skimp on planning
As the video suggests, it's important not to skip the key elements of video production planning, like writing your script. This video itself had a script developed before we started filming.
Don't think too much about this part, after all, you're not creating a script for Hollywood! Simple points can work just as well as a fully developed and detailed script. The important thing is that the theme, which will be saying the lines, is not making up the script as it progresses.
Add relevant references and wait for student input
Did you notice that at the end of each segment the video stops and waits for the student to click the "Continue Video" button? This ensures that the student pays attention and is completely ready to move on to the next section, rather than automatically playing when the student is not ready yet. We also added a relevant document in most of these sections. This gives the student the opportunity to gain more context, gain additional information, and a more comprehensive general learning experience from a single interactive video.
But adding a "Continue" or "Next Lesson" button is not all you need to do. Make sure that some of your sections include a question to assess whether or not the student understood the content. When shooting your video, be sure to leave an open space so you can add these interactive elements without blocking the subject.

Keep it in less than 5 minutes
You will have difficulties to retain the attention of your students if your video lasts more than 5 minutes. Our example video lasts 3:40 minutes, for example. Some topics require longer videos, but it is better to segment them into small pieces to keep students interested.
No need expensive equipment – use your phone and simple tripod
We don't recommend shooting your videos without a tripod, as this:
- Make your viewers dizzy
- Unprofessional
- Make it difficult to align your theme
But this does not mean that you need an expensive setup and a stylish camera. Today, smartphones come fully equipped with amazing cameras that contain all the tools you need to shoot professional corporate e-learning content. And you can find affordable tripods equipped with universal smartphone mounts on Amazon for under $ 30. When it comes to lighting, again, there's no need to spend hundreds of dollars on fancy lights. In our video, we show you how to set up your lights for just $ 45. However, the most important tool you should buy is an external microphone. Sound quality makes a big difference between amateur videos and professional videos, so your smartphone's microphone isn't enough.
It also doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of money on an external microphone, even a cheap microphone will sound better than your phone's microphone. Make sure you install your microphone as close to your subject as possible and take a moment to test your sound before You record your first take. There's no need to waste more than that to create engaging eLearning videos.
Always align your subject
Since most modern smartphones come with useful video tools, you can use it to line up your subject before you start filming. Make sure your subject is online with your camera, then manually focus on your subject. How you do this will vary from phone to phone, and some will even have an automated tool to help you do it. You can also set the exposure and white balance automatically to make sure the lighting and colors look their best. This whole process will only take 30 seconds, so don't skip it! It makes a huge difference in the world when it comes to making your videos look professional.
Add popup videos
Did you notice the "Click to Watch" interaction in the "Align your subject" section of our video? This is one of the powerful features of interactive video. In a traditional video, you would need to edit this additional segment using video editing software, but with Koantic, you can easily add the video within the training without additional editing. This gives your student the opportunity to easily view the popup video again as needed, and treat it as a separate entity. If edited within the main video, it would break the beat and be harder to find.

Choose your background wisely
How you set up your filming space will greatly influence the look of your video. Remember that messy funds can distract your students. If you choose to shoot in front of your workspace, make sure it's not visually distracting. Otherwise, you can go for a more neutral background, like the brick wall we used in our video, or use a green screen to set up a custom background.
