PM hails Riyadh agreement for peace in Yemen – Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan praised the agreement between the Hadi government in Yemen and the separatists backed by the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.

“Pakistan welcomes the conclusion of the historic Riyadh Agreement, as a result of the initiative taken by the Saudi leadership and the support of the UAE government. We believe it is a crucial and important step towards a lasting political solution and peace and security in Yemen, ”Prime Minister Khan tweeted.

The Yemeni government, internationally recognized and led by President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, signed the agreement to share power in Riyadh with separatists in the south of the country, who enjoy the support of the United Arab Emirates, to end the enmity deadly in the anti-Houthi block. The separatists took control of Aden from Saudi-backed forces loyal to Hadi in August this year.

After the agreement, Hadi's forces would now return to Aden and the separatists would get positions in the new cabinet. It is believed that the agreement would allow the anti-Houthi alliance to refocus on the fight against the Houthi militia that has been in control of Sanaa and a large part of northern Yemen since 2014.

Meanwhile, Saudi Defense Under Secretary, Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Ayesh, met with the head of the army, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, at the headquarters.

"During the meeting, views were exchanged on issues of mutual interest, including defense and security cooperation between the two countries and the general regional security situation," said Public Relations between Services.
