Two Border Corps (FC) officers were martyred Tuesday when unknown militants opened fire on an FC convoy in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police said.
The incident occurred in the Bacha Abad area of the Kulachi tehsil.
According to district police officer (DPO) DI Khan Dilawar Bangash, FC personnel were heading to their checkpoint in the Loni area when "unidentified armed terrorists" attacked them near the Qasim River.
"As a result, two FC staff members were martyred and two were injured," DPO Bangash said, adding: "A rickshaw driver also died in the attack."
The DPO said that after "receptive shooting" by the personnel, the militants escaped.
The injured FC personnel were taken to the hospital. Security forces sealed the site of the attack and a search operation was launched.
Last week, three brothers died when a toy bomb exploded at their home in the Daraban Khurd district area. The father of the victims, Safdar, had found the bomb as a ball while working in their fields and brought the toy home and gave it to their children to play.
As soon as the children started playing with him, the ball exploded, killing the three brothers on the spot.
