The scales of Canelo Alvarez and Sergey Kovalev took a ridiculously long time, but they are all over and there is a title competition on Saturday. Canelo (52-1-2, 35 KOs) weighed 174.5 lbs with a light heavyweight debut, while Kovalev (34-3-1, 29 KOs) needed several cracks to make the weight.
Kovalev's weight was initially reduced to 176 pounds, 175.5 pounds, and 175.25 pounds. The fourth was a charm, he reduced it to 175 pounds. The WBO light heavyweight title was officially released in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
What's up? For Kobalov, who just fought at the end of August, this is the reason.
Sergey Kovalev's team claims that the body is not dry, explaining why he simply lost weight, as if he had to go to the bathroom. Expressed the frustration of not being able to access official scales before weighing.
