Walmart adds beer and wine to curbside grocery pickup

Think you want to serve Sauvignon Blanc with salmon? Or burgers and beer? Walmart's new adult beverage options for curb grocery store pickups can be a bit easier.

Beer and wine can be ordered for candleside pickup at 2,000 locations in 29 states, including Texas, California and Florida, the company said. In Houston, this service is available in 70 local stores. The grocery store launched a curbside pickup service locally in 2015.

Tom Ward, senior vice president of digital business, said, “Whatever your shopping list is, Walmart Grocery Pickup helps you stay on time with your busy schedule. "Now without leaving the car, customers can have a perfect bottle of wine for dinner or a beer for a big game."

Customers ordering online through the Walmart Grocery app must present their identity card to verify they are 21 years old or older before searching for alcohol products in a designated curb area outside the store.

Wal-Mart also said it has started serving adult drinks at about 200 stores throughout California and Florida and will add more drinks in accordance with local and state regulations.
