Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday gave the advice of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz until tomorrow to prepare his arguments after the National Office of Accountability (NAB) submitted his response to his petitions in search of a post-arrest bond in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
On September 30, the vice president of PML-N approached the superior court in search of a post-arrest bond in the case, which is being investigated by the NAB. After the sudden deterioration of the health of his father, Nawaz Sharif, on October 24 he filed a miscellaneous petition seeking an immediate bond based on fundamental rights and humanitarian reasons.
The guard dog of responsibility had requested time on Friday to submit his response to the requests. Postponing the procedure, the court had granted the statement and ordered NAB to submit the response before Monday (today).
The LHC heard the main petition and the miscellaneous petition together today.
During the two-member bank hearing consisting of Judge Ali Baqar Najafi and Judge Sardar Ahmad Naeem, the court asked if the PML-N Vice President would meet with his father, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The former prime minister was rushed to the Institute of Medical Sciences Services (SIMS) last week after his personal physician aroused the alarm about his deteriorating health. He is currently admitted to the hospital.
His lawyer, Azam Nazir Tarar, confirmed today that he had been granted permission to meet Nawaz.
The court asked if NAB had submitted its response to Maryam's request, after which the response was presented in court.
Maryam's lawyer requested time for preparation after receiving a copy of the responsibility guard's response. The performances were postponed until tomorrow.
Maryam and her cousin Yousaf Abbas were arrested by the NAB on August 8. Later, on September 26, they were sent to jail in pretrial detention.
NAB suspects that Maryam is involved in money laundering through investments of large variable amounts, being the main shareholder of the CSM. It is alleged that she was involved in money laundering with the help of some foreigners during the period 1992-93, when her father Nawaz Sharif was the prime minister.
