Ben Askren arrived live on ESPN + at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore at UFC Fight Night 162 when he lost a major event bid for welter veteran Demian Maia for three days at UFC Fight Night 162 today. Round submission (see again here).
After a historic five-second knockout loss to Jorge Mas Vidal in July, Askren was hoping to go to a meaningful 170-pound bout in early 2020, signifying a victory with Maia. Unfortunately, in the case of “Funky” Maia's obedience has also been proven. Lots of wrestler takedown and top pressure.
Askren said UFC's favor behind the scenes after losing to Maia, "there's a reason why my father is probably the best grapple in MMA history."
Askren said the main event clash with Maia prior to UFC Singapore was for "Best Grapple in Mixed Martial Arts". Few people mentioned that Askren could be a former university wrestling champion and Maia could be Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The practitioner goes to the cage.
Askren has been hit hardest, especially considering that he's been trying to lock UFC title shots since last year's deal with Demetrious Johnson. His 35-year-old burst into the UFC scene with a controversial submission in Robbie Lawler's debut, but now has two straight wins inside the Octagon.
Askren is one of the most open and honest fighters in the MMA today and wasted some time sending to Twitter to explain the loss of UFC Singapore.
I made a bad decision and it failed. Sorry for everyone I disappointed.

Askren said, “We made the wrong decision and we failed. “I'm sorry for everyone I'm disappointed with.
Currently, fans aren't sure what Askren will do next. If 2 straight losses occur under his belt, effort will be required to return back to title ownership in 2020. And if a previously retired fighter like "Funky" wasn't ready to challenge the UFC title, it's probably time to quit.
