India yoga: Inspirational teacher V Nanammal dies at 99

India's oldest index and yoga teacher, V Nanammal, died at home near Coimbatore, southern Tamil Nadu.

She was 99 years old and teaches 100 students a day until a few months ago.

Born in a farmhouse, I learned yoga from my father.

She has learned over 50 different postures or asanas and trained over a million students. Hundreds of students are now yoga instructors around the world.

She became a popular figure on YouTube in her later years and still performed the most powerful yoga position on the trademark Pink Sari.

A week ago, she fell out of bed and has not been feeling well since then. Family sources were quoted as speaking at the PTI News Agency in India.

In an interview with BBC News in 2017, Nanam Malik rated her health as her daily yoga routine.

"Health is your priority and everything is achievable," she said.
