The application for the Innovate for Life (I4L) program 2020 for Health Innovators is open. The Innovate for Life (I4L) program focuses on the development of shared value partnerships between Amref’s branch offices and health innovators at SSA to support global scale health innovations and address key health issues in the region.
Through this mission, I4L promotes innovation for the creation of sustainable health change in Africa, supporting Amref Health Africa’s overall vision, mission and commitment. I4L combines health knowledge, competencies and networks, business and leadership coaching, and accelerated partnerships for program innovators.
Program details
The program utilizes a combination of direct and remote work, online courses and workshops, independent study and co-creation. The program consists of three main steps.
- Stage 1 : Scouting – For more than three months, I4L understands Amref’s branch program needs, sourcing global innovators based on these needs, and selecting and matching innovators to branch office programs.
- Step 2: Core Programming – In five months, I4L will host orientation, lead business and leadership coaching, and collaborate on partnerships between health innovators and Amref. These activities will lead to the development of partnership proposals that can be signed while completing this phase.
- Step 3: Follow-up – Ongoing after completion of the core program, I4L monitors the progress of the I4L innovator and the developed shared value solution of the core program and provides ongoing support through pilot implementation and / or alumni programming.

eligibility
They have a proven business and health impact model, have tested SSA-scale innovations, and are looking for passionate health innovators who meet the needs of Amref’s branch office, enabling a strong partnership on demand-driven innovation programs and scale.
In particular, future I4L innovators should:
- Provide Ethiopia with innovative solutions in the following areas: NCD, CD and WASH;
- Get innovative solutions in solutionHIV / TB / malaria / NCD, RMNCAH and WASH & NTD areas in / Kenya. Particular attention to innovation aimed at “behavioral change” and “data collection” in the above-mentioned subject areas;
- Perform proof of concept innovations that have proven business viability.
- There is evidence that innovation was tested in the Kenyan or Ethiopian markets. For example, feasibility assessment, registration and / or initiation of innovation in this area;
- I am interested in expanding innovation through partnerships with one or more Amref programs.
