NAB forms committee to address reservations valid complaints of business

The National Office of Responsibility (NAB) on Monday announced the formation of a six-member committee to improve the economy and address the business community's reserves and their "valid complaints."

In a press release, the responsibility regulator said the committee was formed after consulting with the NAB executive board using the powers granted by Section 33 (C) of the National Responsibility Ordinance (NAO), 1999.

The committee will include the following members:

  • Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Saarc (SCCI) Iftikhar Ali Malik
  • The President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan, Daroo Khan Achackzai
  • Former president of Alfalah Bank, Atif Bajwa
  • Former president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Lahore, Mian Anjum Nisar
  • Sikandar Mustafa Khan, managing director of Millat Tractors, and
  • Former head of the Liaison Committee of the Karachi Citizen Police Jameel Yusuf

According to the NAB, the committee will present its recommendations on any problem facing the business community to the president of the NAB.

These recommendations will be thoroughly reviewed by a three-member committee, consisting of the NAB vice president, the NAB attorney general and the DG NAB operations, who will then submit their final recommendations to the NAB president.

A decision will be made on the proposals "without delay and in accordance with the law," the NAB press release said.

The business community committee may also submit its requests directly to the NAB president and "a legal solution will be devised for each problem through mutual understanding," he added.

However, the brochure indicated that the decision taken by the NAB president will be "final" during the process and complaints about references that have already been submitted will not be admissible.

"The status of the aforementioned business community committee will only be advisory and the use of the authority legally granted to NAB will not be prohibited," the press release added as a condition.

He said that NAB "immensely respects" the business community and all possible measures will be taken for the prosperity of the country and the improvement of the economy.

"The first and last association of NAB is only with the state of Pakistan and its prosperity," the statement concluded.

The announcement comes two weeks after the retired NAB president, Judge Javed Iqbal, said at a press conference that none of the office officials would call any businessman directly for questioning and that NAB would not investigate cases. tax evasion and those related to bank default, except those referred by banks

That announcement was made by the chief of anti-graft surveillance days after some business magnates had shared their concerns about the accountability process with Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Chief of the Army General Staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, in separate meetings.
