The National Book Awards finalist was announced this week. Fictional candidates include Susan Choi, a graduate of Houston High School Performing and Visual Arts.
In 2003, the novel "American Woman" won the Pulitzer Prize final and recently entered the National Book Award final of the novel "Trust Exercise". Other finalists are Khalifa Jardo-Ansteen's "Sabrina & Corina: The Story", Marlon James, "Black Panther, The Red Wolf", Lila Laramie's "Other Americans", and Julia Phillips' "Disappearing Earth".
Among the finalists of the city is "traditional" Jericho Brown. Brown holds a Ph.D. from the University of Houston.
