FO summons Indian deputy high commissioner to condemn ‘deplorable’ ceasefire violation – Pakistan

The Foreign Ministry called on Wednesday the Deputy High Commissioner of India, Gaurav Ahluwalia, to protest against another violation of the ceasefire by Indian forces on the other side of the Control Line (LoC), in which a civilian died and three others were injured.

According to a press release issued today, a 50-year-old woman, Noor Jahan, was killed Tuesday for "indiscriminate and unprovoked shooting" by Indian forces in the Nezapir and Bagsar sectors. One woman and two men suffered gunshot wounds.

It was the second time that Indian forces violated the ceasefire agreement in the last four days. On September 29, Indian forces killed two civilians, including a woman and a teenager. Three other civilians were injured.

According to the press release, the Foreign Ministry spokesman, Dr. Mohammad Faisal, said Indian forces had been frequently attacking civilian-populated areas with "artillery fire, large-caliber mortars and automatic weapons."

"This unprecedented escalation in violations of the ceasefire by India has continued since 2017 when Indian forces committed 1,970 violations of the ceasefire," the press release reads.

Dr. Faisal warned that violations of the ceasefire "can lead to a strategic miscalculation." He described the "deliberate attack against areas populated by civilians" as "deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws" and added that they were a "threat to regional peace."

The Director General urged the Indian side to respect the ceasefire agreement of 2003. He said that the Indian side should allow the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan to play its mandatory role according to Security Council resolutions of the ONU.
