Shahid Afridi to turn out for Qalandars in T10 League

Two new teams, Qalandars and Bangla Tigers, will compete in Abu Dhabi's T10 league this year. The latest team, Qalandars, was released on Sunday and Shahid Afridi signed up as an icon player for the franchise.

Afridi said at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, “I was very happy to be part of it (T10) since I heard it would be played in Abu Dhabi. "The first two editions of the T10 were in Sharjah and are now in Abu Dhabi. We're going to offer fans all the entertainment with this short form game.

"T10 is another concept that Batman has to start from. It's good to have a lot of variety for fans."

The Qalandars are closely related to Lahore Qalandars, called the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and Pakistani businessman Fawad Rana is the chairman of both teams. Rana also invested in the Durban Qalandars franchise in the Sasan T20 Global League in South Africa and later headed for the Mzansi Super League (MSL).

Bangla Tigers, owned by Bangladeshi company Yasin Chowdhury and former BCB director Sirajuddin Alam, were released on Thursday.

The league previously included a team called Bengal Tigers, but this team, owned by the Indian-based Danube Group, was renamed Delhi Bulls. Meanwhile, the Syndis franchise was brand-named following the acquisition of Indian businessman Gaurav Grover, and will now be called Decan Gladiators.
