LARKANA: The president of the Popular Party of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, said he supports the initiative of Prime Minister Imran Khan to act as a facilitator of the talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia to help calm the growing tensions between the two countries.<\/p>\n
He said the war would have a devastating impact on the country, that it was already facing tensions along its borders with Afghanistan and India and that the situation was tense at home. "We will support this [no-war] government policy, "he said.<\/p>\n
After opening a support center for HIV treatment at Ratodero Taluka hospital on Wednesday, he told reporters that it was a welcome step, but he seemed to be in confusion from the beginning. At first, the initiative was attributed to the United States, then linked with Saudi Arabia, but when Imran Khan landed in Iran, he insisted it was purely his decision.<\/p>\n
On Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl's refusal to support the PPP candidate in the Larkana partial elections, Bilawal said that, in regard to maulana\u2019s Azadi March, he demanded the expulsion of the Tehreek-i government from Pakistan -Insaf, his party would support him, but only the same maulana could explain his party's decision to support a candidate backed by the PTI against Jamil Soomro of the PPP.<\/p>\n
He recalled that a multi-party conference of opposition parties had decided in principle to support the party's candidate in the partial elections that could have obtained the highest number of votes. In the Bannu partial elections, PPP had supported the JUI-F candidate, while in Ghotki JUI-F had corresponded by supporting the PPP candidate, he said.<\/p>\n
Bilawal evaded a question about whether a "selected" MPA was sent to the assembly in the general elections and reiterated that if this time there were no frauds, the candidate of his party would be victorious.<\/p>\n
"We want free and fair elections and we support Azadi March de Maulana and demand the resignation of the prime minister," he said.<\/p>\n
He said in response to a question about the statement of federal minister Fawad Chaudhry that he had exposed the performance of the PTI government, whose policies had already led to the dismissal of a large number of media by its means, industries, agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
Definitely, the closure of 400 departments would not only drastically affect the economy but also create an army of unemployed people who would overload the economy, he said.<\/p>\n
He explained that there were two approaches to the economy: rightist and leftist. In the right-wing approach, the rich got rich and the reduction of personnel was the order of the day, while the left-wing approach followed populist programs, created jobs not only to end unemployment but also to build the economy. PPP believed in awami programs, he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the PPP president inaugurated the support center for HIV treatment and said that another treatment center that was already working in Larkana would become a center of excellence and a model for others to follow.<\/p>\n
He said that all health institutions in the country should fight together against the challenge.<\/p>\n
"We are working with WHO, UNICEF and other agencies and we are thinking of providing transportation facilities to poor patients," he said.<\/p>\n
On his government's announcement to found a fund to provide financial assistance to patients affected by HIV, Bilawal quoted Sindh Minister of Health, Dr. Azra Pechuho, and said that a donor conference would soon be convened in Karachi to frame long-term policy.<\/p>\n
Ms. Pechuho, who was with Bilawal during her press talk, said that her department had trained child specialists to treat children affected by HIV.<\/p>\n
