In 1994, he disputed and won the Karnataka parliamentary elections in the Ankola constituency of Karnataka. He was elected MLA. In 2008, the Ankola Constituency was scrapped from the Separation Drive. Then Visheshwar won by competing against the newly formed Sirsi constituency. He was re-elected in 2013 and 2018. In 2008, he was appointed Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of Karnataka in the BS Yeddyurappa Cabinet. In July 2018, the HD Kumaraswamy Coalition Government failed to vote in trust, and BJP took office with BS Yeddyurappa as Karnataka's new COO. On July 30, 2019, the name of Vishweshwar was proposed on behalf of the chairman of the Karnataka Assembly. He was unanimously elected speaker.<\/p>\n
