One person was involved in a rape case. The majority, of the 579 released, were sentenced to one to five years in prison for drug trafficking and forgery.

In addition to the 579 prisoners, another 3,396 deportees from Makkah, Riyadh, Dammam, Tabuk and Jouf to mention some cities have also been released from the deportation camps since the visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman earlier this year.

The Saudi crown prince had announced the release of more than 2,000 Pakistani prisoners at the request of Prime Minister Imran Khan during the latter's visit to the kingdom in February.

The committee also dealt with sending more Pakistani labor abroad.

Kashif Noor, managing director of the Office of Emigration and Employment Abroad, who works under the Ministry of Human Resources Development and Pakistan, said Pakistan faces numerous problems with regard to sending its workforce abroad.

Some 16 countries need labor, both qualified and unskilled, in the manufacturing, fisheries, agricultural and services sectors.

“However, the Pakistani workforce lacks professionalism and has a low level of interpersonal skills among human resources. Always are late. They take long prayer prayers. The Pakistani workforce needs a change in attitude if it has to compete with that of other countries, ”Noor told committee members.

The low skill levels of the Pakistani human resource and the availability of cheap labor in international markets are serious concerns.

Many countries in the Middle East have changed their policies and now give preference to their own citizens over the imported workforce, he said, adding that all developing counties were suffering the consequences of the new policies.

However, South Korea has demanded labor and professional labor. “South Korea pays labor for $ 1,500 to $ 2,000. More than 8,500 workers have been sent to South Korea for jobs that are now contributing through foreign remittances, "the official told members.

Similarly, the United Kingdom has demanded qualified nurses and is offering 2,500 pounds.

“The only problem is that nurses do not pass the English test. In more than two years, only two nurses were able to get seven bands on the English language test, which is mandatory for the workforce to be accepted for vacancies in the United Kingdom, ”said the official.

Posted on Dawn, October 11, 2019

Source: https://www.dawn.com/news/1510202/579-pakistani-prisoners-released-in-saudi-arabia

ISLAMABAD: A parliamentary body was informed Thursday that 579 Pakistani prisoners had been released in Saudi Arabia under royal clemency. "Representatives of the relevant offices in Pakistan are in contact with the Saudi government on the release of prisoners," said Dr. Amir Sheikh, managing director of the Overseas Pakistan Foundation.
