However, its execution was public in the sense that it was inevitable in the national conversation, in response to an indescribable attack against common decency and the moral fabric of society. However, the cries of revenge, the public hanging and the execution itself did not stop the author of the next round of rapes and murders.

Before Imran Ali, there was Javed Iqbal, the serial killer who confessed to the murder of 100 children. The judge, while sentencing him to the gallows in March 2000, wrote: "You will be strangled to death in front of the parents whose children you killed." Then, his body will be cut into 100 pieces and placed in acid, in the same way that he killed the children. "Javed Iqbal later died in an apparent suicide while in prison.

The point in the dominant discourse for Imran Ali and Javed Iqbal was not about protecting our children from the next Imran Ali or Javed Iqbal, but about looking tough as a government and society against an elementary and inconceivable failure.

The death penalty is always just that: demonstrate our willingness and ability to inflict murder. The message is not addressed to future murderers and rapists (obviously it does not work on them), but to the general public.

Related: No, the death penalty is not a solution to child sexual abuse.

The relationship between an authoritarian state and death was eloquently highlighted by Robert Badinter, French Minister of Justice under Francois Mitterrand in his speech to the French Parliament in September 1981. "It is against justice … it is the passion and fear that prevail about humanity. "

More importantly, “in countries of freedom, abolition is almost the rule; In dictatorships, capital punishment is used everywhere. This division of the world does not result only from a coincidence. Show a correlation. The true political significance of the death penalty is that it results from the idea that the State has the right to take advantage of the citizen, even the possibility of suppressing the citizen's life. "

After the revolution in Iran, the Ziaul Haq regime began spreading the news of executions under Ayatollah Khomeini. Pakistani newspaper archives following the overthrow of the Raza Shah regime in February 1979 have death sentences handed down as headlines and Khomeini making "nashta"Of" dozens "(of people).

It seemed a little strange; however, it was deliberately aimed at creating acceptance for state-sponsored violence and setting the stage for the greatest execution / murder in the history of Pakistan, the execution of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on April 5, 1979.

Read also: & # 39; Mr President, grant mercy to my daughter who was tortured in a false murder confession & # 39;

In 1983, Pappu's killer, a young man from Lahore, was publicly executed and the killer's body was hung up for a whole day as a show. The rape and murder of children did not end in the country or even in the city; However, Zia's dictatorship had once again pointed out that it was a perverse pleasure to make a show of violence. The scourges of activists and journalists become significantly more palatable when there are bodies hanging from lampposts.

The deterrence argument for the death penalty has been widely discredited and most governments, including Pakistan, make the deterrence argument weak and almost involuntary, since that is not the purpose of the death penalty.

Arthur Koestler in his seminal case against the death penalty in England wrote about the moment when pickpockets were publicly executed, and other pickpockets would take advantage of the crowds gathered to witness the executions to exercise their talents. In 1886, of 167 men in Bristol prison sentenced to public execution, 164 had witnessed at least one public execution.

The call to murder is the maximum distraction, the most powerful war cry for the mafia.
