LAHORE: The Electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) claims to have registered 4.5 million new voters mostly from areas where social values \u200b\u200bhave been preventing women from standing out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have been launching awareness campaigns in the Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa tribal districts for the past two years to motivate women to use their right to franchise. The campaign has been successful since so far 4.5 million new voters have been registered, mostly from these areas, "said additional ECP director general Nadeem Qasim. Dawn<\/em> here on monday <\/p>\n

He said those districts were selected to launch the campaign where the difference between male and female voters was more than 10 percent. "Despite being 49 percent of the population, the number of female registered voters is 12.5 million less than men in a total of 110 million registered voters," he said. <\/p>\n

Sharing the method used to motivate women, the ADG said that the mobile vans of the National Database and Registration Authority were used to offer a free national identity card service and on Friday it was set as the specific day of the women to do their CNIC. "This helped the ECP register them as voters." <\/p>\n

ECP guaranteed the issuance of free identification cards for women <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Previously, local media were informed about the third five-year strategic plan (2019-23) of the PCE in a consultation here on Monday. <\/p>\n

Participants were told that the post-election review report of the PCE 2018 had not been presented so far before any of the five elected chambers, the National Assembly and the four provincial houses, although the work had to be done within the 60 days after the report is presented according to the law. <\/p>\n

According to ECP sources, the report was presented to the federal and provincial governments in March last year, but apparently stalled at the meetings of the standing committees. <\/p>\n

The session reported that the strategic plan was based on 212 recommendations collected through consultations with more than 5,000 people and entities, including political parties, NGOs and CSOs related to various democratic and electoral projects. <\/p>\n

However, the recommendations were not shared with the media.<\/p>\n
