She yelled at him in the office and undermined him at an industrial event.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;At first it was a snide remark,&quot; he said. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">&amp; # 39; Soul Destruction &amp; # 39;<\/h2>\n<p>&quot;S slowly and surely things started to change, and the remarks became less distracting, aggressive, hostile and clever.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He says that every day it became a &quot;soul destruction&quot;. Craig adds.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If you work for a bad boss that bothers you steadily, it drops your self-esteem.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;You don&#39;t produce the best work, you&#39;re not happy, you don&#39;t really want more miles.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Craig&#39;s experience is not unique. Research from the Chartered Human Resource Development Institute (CIPD) says that in fact, 7{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} of people don&#39;t go with their boss.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">&amp; # 39; It&#39;s a small thing &amp; # 39;<\/h2>\n<p>Ben Willmott, director of public policy at CIPD, says that in most cases, employees are opposed to managers for perceived inequity or excessive workload.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It&#39;s a tiny thing to be able to integrate and break down,&quot; he said. <\/p>\n<p>To avoid this, employees are encouraged to talk honestly about issues with employees if they feel comfortable.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">How should businesses deal with &amp; # 39; toxic employees?<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">&amp; # 39; I sued my boss and won &amp; # 39;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&quot;The manager may not fully know how his behavior is perceived,&quot; said Wilmot. &quot;It will be enough to make a little wake-up call in itself.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>But he points out that more serious issues like bullying or harassment should be addressed by HR or other managers.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">&amp; # 39; long and hard &amp; # 39;<\/h2>\n<p>Wilmot says that good managers need to know a little bit about their employees&#39; lives, whether they have children or want to go on vacation.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If you don&#39;t care about employees, you won&#39;t trust without trust and confidence in your employment relationship.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>He encourages people to think &quot;long and hard&quot; about whether culture is likely to change before he decides to quit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\">\n            <span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                 <span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Damian Bailey<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\">\n                <span class=\"off-screen\">Image caption<\/span><br \/>\n                <span class=\"media-caption__text\"><\/p>\n<p>                    Damian Beeley says his old boss used himself for \u201cruil and humiliation\u201d.<br \/>\n                <\/span><br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But once there was a problem with the boss, now Damian Beeley, a PR consultant who manages the team at Haggie Partners, says it&#39;s time to start looking for a new job if this is a personal matter.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If you don&#39;t like them and they don&#39;t like you, it will never change,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p>But he thinks that having a boss is easier than having employees.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;If there are people who don&#39;t like you as managers, it should be a concern and you may want to think about why they don&#39;t like you.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&quot;However, if you are an employee and hate your boss, it is a much more uncomfortable emotional place.&quot;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape has-caption full-width\">\n            <span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                 <span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Adam Whatson<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><figcaption class=\"media-caption\">\n                <span class=\"off-screen\">Image caption<\/span><br \/>\n                <span class=\"media-caption__text\"><\/p>\n<p>                    Adam Whatson&#39;s team did not like what he had received.<br \/>\n                <\/span><br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Adam Whatson knows what it&#39;s like to have your employees oppose you.<\/p>\n<p>He had no management experience and all his new reports were older than him, but he managed to manage a team of eight managers.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;It was foolish to go to a job and it was foolish to give me a job,&quot; he says.<\/p>\n<p>Whatson says many of his teams went to do the job and they say they didn&#39;t like the fact that was suggested to him.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;They didn&#39;t actually see me as a manager. Because they were younger, they saw me as a cheater.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Whatson came back from lunch during the festival and found out that the team went out for a Christmas meal without facing him.<\/p>\n<p>He said it wasn&#39;t really a &quot;happy ending&quot; but a story he didn&#39;t cope with.<\/p>\n<p>He notified in eight months.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"story-body__crosshead\">From employee to thief<\/h2>\n<p>But if an employee does not meet the manager, the company risks losing more than the employee.<\/p>\n<p>According to Rosalind Searle, a professor of organizational trust at the University of Glasgow, complaints between employees and executives can lead to criminal activity.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\">\n            <span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>                 <span class=\"off-screen\">Image copyright<\/span><br \/>\n                 <span class=\"story-image-copyright\">Getty images<\/span><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>&quot;If you don&#39;t cope with frustration, you can turn into anger when people try to retaliate, and even despise even when they&#39;re in a bad way,&quot; she says.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Searle warned, &quot;If an employee feels injustice, he may try to resolve it in a more evil way.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>She can steal a business if they think they are being paid in response to a request to do what they think is unreasonable, she says.<\/p>\n<p>Craig found himself spending more and more time &quot;trying to forget things&quot; at the gym or pub.<\/p>\n<p>He moved to his preferred career, but still remembers how work can be a &quot;place of torture.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>His old boss said he would have been fired from another job.<\/p>\n<p>He now knows that is not true.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/pre>\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Image copyright Getty images \u201cI actually loved my job but it will actually kill your passion when there is a boss who hates you or tries to undermine you,\u201d Craig is not his real name.
