LAHORE: Army personnel were deployed with police in the Gaddafi Stadium and its surroundings to provide security to players and fans during the three Twenty20 games between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on October 5, 7 and 9. The army will lead security arrangements for transporting the invited team and officials.<\/p>\n
The surroundings of the stadium have been cordoned off by the strong deployment of Rangers staff and police commands since Friday night, an official told Dawn.<\/p>\n
He said that 25 major and small roads around the site have been blocked for general traffic by placing containers and barriers. More than 13,000 police officers will drive roads. Snipers have also taken positions in buildings declared sensitive around the stadium.<\/p>\n
The police have already taken bonds from the owners of the residents who live around the stadium that they will not allow strangers to enter their homes during the series. The official said the roads that have been blocked are Jail Road, a portion of Canal and Ferozepur Road, Main Boulevard and MM Alam Road.<\/p>\n
Cricket lovers who visit the stadium have received parking lots at various sites to facilitate them.<\/p>\n
A high alert has been declared in the city and police officers have been ordered to keep them fully alert. Patrolling also intensified and the search operation in the selected areas of the city was launched Friday night.<\/p>\n
