RAWALPINDI: The families of civilians, who died and suffered injuries when a small military plane crashed in a residential area near Phase 7 of the city of Bahria two months ago, received compensation.<\/p>\n
Each family has received Rs1 million, while the authorities concerned are evaluating other losses.<\/p>\n
Several people, including five crew members, had lost their lives when the plane on a training flight crashed on July 30.<\/p>\n
\u201cI joined my office last week. I can't sleep well, especially after midnight, when the plane crashed at about 2 in the morning, "said Zafar Ali, older brother of Mohammad Jameel, who along with his wife and son, died in the plane crash.<\/p>\n
"My brother, his wife and their four-year-old son are gone, but the military authorities had paid devout compensation and are now evaluating the losses caused to the houses and the loss of other valuables," Ali said, adding that even those who had suffered minor injuries were also compensated.<\/p>\n
Recalling the fateful night, he said: "My brother, along with his family, was sleeping in a room on the ground floor when a part of the plane fell on our house, which caused a fire."<\/p>\n
Ali said he was also injured while trying to rescue his brother and his family. "It was the will of God," he said.<\/p>\n
Shamsuddin, a van driver who lost his six-year-old son, sister and husband in the incident, was satisfied with the compensation he received.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have been living in an impromptu tent with my family for several years. That night, my wife and I went to my parents' house, leaving our little son when the plane crashed, \u201dhe recalled.<\/p>\n
Shamsuddin said he had been paid compensation and the authorities assured him that he would also be compensated for other losses. \u201cThe motor vehicle registration authorities are not making the documents of my van that burned in the fire. I'm still unemployed because I can't drive my truck without his papers, \u201dhe lamented.<\/p>\n
However, he thanked the military authorities for their help and compensation paid to the families of the victims.<\/p>\n
Abdul Hameed, who had lost eight members of his family in the plane crash, also received compensation.<\/p>\n
