Design competitions are being held in a unique way for over a million New Yorkers who are hungry for Thanksgiving. An annual competition, Canstruction is having a hard time creating huge sculptures from unopened cans for designers, architects and engineers.
\nJennifer Greene, founding member of Canstruction New York, said, "Costation is the 25th anniversary this year. It was founded by the Design Administration for Society."
\n"We actually borrowed this idea from the Seattle chapter and made a space needle out of cans and thought" #Oh, let's do Canstruction. "That's 25 years ago."
\nThis year, 27 teams have turned around 80,000 cans into gravity-destroying masterpieces such as dice, giant lotuses, Pac-Man, and 8-foot by 8-foot pineapple structures. The best prize in the contest, the "Best Meal" prize, will be offered on November 6.
\n"We are sad because we donate food to City Harvest and one in four New Yorkers is hungry," Green said. "So our food will feed 45,000 homes, but it's like a drop in New Yorkers." Canfield will be on display at Brookfield Place, New York, from November 15th.<\/p>\n
