The company on August 1 came out with a price increase of Rs137,000 and Rs138,000. The VXR and AGS models are now sold at Rs1.308m and Rs1.518m.

The company, in a circular to its authorized distributors, did not attribute any reason for the price increase. However, he said the price increase would not be for previous pending orders, which have been reserved with a partial prepayment, and / or for those orders in which customers did not deposit their balance payments within the requested deadline. .

Alto has become Suzuki's savior at a time when all assemblers have been observing non-production days (NPD). So far, Suzuki had not observed NPD during July-September despite the massive drop in sales in the WagonR model along with flat sales in Bolan, Ravi, Cultus and Swift.

Surprisingly, the increase in Alto's prices had taken the markets by surprise amid stability in the dollar-rupee parity during August-September. Car manufacturers had been raising prices citing the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar.

In the two-wheel segment, the prices of the GD110S, GS150, GS150SE and GR150 models have risen to Rs168,000, Rs178,000, Rs194,000 and Rs265,000 of Rs166,000, Rs175,000, Rs191,000 and Rs259,000 respectively despite the decrease in sales during July-August. The PSMCL circular issued to distributors did not mention any reason for the price increase.

Sales of Suzuki bicycles during 2MFY20 fell to 3,162 units from 3,738 units in the same period last fiscal year. However, the company's two-wheel sales improved to 23,352 units in fiscal year 19 from 21,724 units in fiscal year 2018.

Taking into account the bleak sales outlook, local car assemblers have reduced the import of semi and completely disassembled kits (CKD / SKD) for cars by 15.5pc during July-August to $ 123m. The general import of CKD / SKD for bicycle assembly was reduced by 25 pieces to $ 13 million.

Posted on Dawn, October 2, 2019

Source: https://www.dawn.com/news/1508499/suzuki-raises-alto-bike-prices

KARACHI: The Pak Suzuki Motor Company Limited (PSMCL) announced on Tuesday the second price jump in two variants of Alto660cc for Rs70,000-85,000 from October 1, followed by a price increase of Rs2,000-6,000 in vehicles of two wheels.
