From approximately 1.6 million visits in 2014, tourist traffic in cultural sites increased to 6.6 million visits in 2018, an increase of 317 percent over a period of five years . Punjab, as the largest and most populous province, contributed approximately 95{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5}, while tourist traffic in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa fluctuated over the years.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A report by Gallup Pakistan indicates that tourism could be a potential game change for the country&#39;s troubled economy<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Tourist traffic on museum sites increased by approximately 50 percent with the number of visits that increased from 1.7 million in 2014 to around 2.7 million in 2018. Tourist traffic in KP and Balochistan has also experienced a similar trend in its museum sites, while in Punjab and Sindh, the number of visits to museum sites fluctuated over the years. But, in general, the provinces recorded the maximum number of visits in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Total visits by foreigners increased more than twice for cultural and museum sites in Pakistan. In the last five years, the percentage of foreign visitors to museums increased by approximately 130 percent, while foreign visitors to cultural sites increased by 100 percent. Museums remained more popular among foreign visitors by receiving an average of 50pc more visits than cultural sites. The trend among the four provinces for total foreign visits experienced a gradual increase, with the largest increase in KP, where the number of visits to museums in 2018 increased by 250pc.<\/p>\n<p>The Pakistan Monument Museum in Islamabad, the Khewra Mines Museum in Chakwal and the Lok Virsa Heritage Museum in Islamabad were the three most popular museums between 2016 and 2018, with the Taxila and Lahore museums in fourth and fifth positions.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  one-whole  palm--one-whole  media--stretch  \">\n<\/figure>\n<p>Speaking to <em>Dawn<\/em>Bilal Ghani of Gallup Pakistan said: \u201cWe have seen an increase of 15 to 20 pieces in local and foreign visitors. Interest in museums is constantly increasing, \u201dadding that the report was based on the number of visits by local and foreign visitors to cultural sites and museums maintained by federal and provincial governments.<\/p>\n<p>The report states that Shahi Qila in Lahore was the most popular cultural site. The Shalimar Garden, Lahore, was the second most popular site in 2016 and 2018, and the Hiran Minar in Sheikhupura was the second most visited site in 2017. The third most popular site in 2016 was the tomb of Jehangir, Lahore. In 2017, the ancient Takht-i-Bahi Buddhist monastic complex in Mardan was the most visited and in 2018 it was the Hiran Minar.<\/p>\n<p>Among foreigners, the Lahore Museum was the most popular in 2016 and 2017. But, in 2018, the Taxila Museum was the most visited. From 2016 to 2018, Taxila was the most beloved cultural site for foreign tourists. Shahi Qila was the second most popular site. The third most visited site by foreigners in 2016 was Moenjodaro, Larkana, the Jehangir Tomb in 2017 and the Shalimar Garden in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is room for further improvements.
