ISLAMABAD: The National Office of Responsibility (NAB) on Wednesday approved a new investigation against the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif, and summoned former planning and development minister Ahsan Iqbal in a separate case on Thursday. <\/p>\n
The decision to initiate the investigation against Sharif was taken at the NAB Executive Board Meeting (EBM), chaired by the retired president of the office, the retired judge Javed Iqbal. <\/p>\n
According to a NAB official, the new investigation against opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif, who is also president of the Muslim League of Pakistan (PML-N), related to his alleged involvement in corruption in the department of Auqaf when He was the prime minister of Punjab. <\/p>\n
Sharif also faces other cases of NAB. <\/p>\n
PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal was summoned by NAB in a case related to the establishment of Sports City in his hometown of Narowal. He is accused of using resources from the federal government and the Pakistan Sports Board to establish sports facilities in his hometown of Punjab. <\/p>\n
Speaking to Dawn<\/em>Mr. Iqbal said that NAB had given him a questionnaire about the establishment of the Sports City in Narowal and he had responded to that, but he had been asked to submit another document that he would deliver to the office on Thursday. "It is a false case," he said. <\/p>\n Meanwhile, EBM also approved the submission of two separate references against different defendants, which involve an amount of more than Rs 25 billion. <\/p>\n The first reference was approved against Dr. Mohammad Amjad, head of a private housing plan called Eden Housing Society, and his associates. They are accused of cheating people in the course of selling plots of society.
