A group of more than 50 opposition leaders organized a protest outside the House of Parliament in Islamabad on Thursday to protest the non-issuance of production orders for several incarcerated politicians.<\/p>\n
Prior to a session of the National Assembly, opposition leaders in the field included PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, Ayaz Sadiq, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Rana Tanveer, PML-N spokesperson, Marriyum Aurangzeb, as well as lawmakers from PPP Naveed Qamar, Shazia Marri and Shahida Rehmani.<\/p>\n
The protest camp included photos of arrested leaders, including former President Asif Ali Zardari, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique and Rana Sanaullah. The posters calling for the release of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter, the leader of PML-N, Maryam Nawaz, were also retained.<\/p>\n
During the protest, the leader of the PPP Marri opposed playing hymns of the PML-N party. Aurangzeb asked him to also provide PPP songs, which he did.<\/p>\n
While talking to the media, former Foreign Minister Asif said opposition leaders protested the approach of the president of the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, and the non-issuance of production orders for several leaders.<\/p>\n
He said that the rights of the members of the assembly were being denied.<\/p>\n
"Our protest is symbolic," said Asif, adding that yesterday, while a session of the National Assembly was underway, the unconditional PPP Khursheed Shah was arrested and Qaiser was unaware of this.<\/p>\n
Shah joined a long list of opposition leaders, including Zardari, his sister Faryal Talpur, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Abbasi, former finance minister Miftah Ismail, Maryam, Saad Rafique, the current opposition leader in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz, who currently faces corruption charges.<\/p>\n
During the protest, PPP leader Qamar said that arresting opposition leaders such as Shah, Nawaz and Zardari would make no difference.<\/p>\n
He added that it was the responsibility of the custodian of the Chamber to protect the rights of MNAs and he did not care.<\/p>\n
"[They] we want to run the assembly as a PTI, we will not let this happen, "he said.<\/p>\n
PML-N spokesman Aurangzeb announced that the protest was being organized to express solidarity with the arrested opposition politicians, as well as to oppose the dictatorial thinking of the "selected" prime minister and media restrictions.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/pre>\n<\/pre>\n
