The rejection sent a wave of shock and resentment to the medical fraternity in Pakistan and abroad, in addition to bringing a bad name to the country.

Some of the affected doctors and senior health officials in Pakistan had blamed the Pakistan College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSP) of "damaging their career" abroad, accusing a CPSP delegation of defaming their rival postgraduate qualification – MD / Ms – to maintain the monopoly of The FCPS in medical education.

The federal and provincial governments also faced criticism when several doctors were sent to pack by the authorities of the Gulf states, while many others faced layoffs. Unfortunately, the Pakistani authorities did nothing to rescue these doctors.

However, the Punjab government took the initiative by forming a technical committee to assess the situation and make public the factors behind the rejection of Pakistan's medical degree program by the Gulf countries.

The terms of reference (TOR) of the committee included a comparison of the postgraduate qualification offered by the country's public sector medical universities and the FCPS run by the Pakistan College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSP) in terms of professional development and structuring professional.

The committee coordinator, Professor Shaukat, raised very pertinent questions about the injustice committed against Pakistani doctors working in the Gulf countries on his "personal note", in addition to sending a detailed report of the committee to the higher authorities.

In the note, sent along with the committee's findings, Professor Shaukat suggested that government employees who played a negative role that resulted in the rejection of the local grade program should be questioned and receive exemplary punishment.

"I have not issued any opinion on the accusations in this case, but I believe that the matter should be brought to its logical conclusion through an impartial transparent investigation," reads Professor Shaukat's letter.

He suggested that if any irresponsible behavior was found by any Punjab government employee in the matter, strict disciplinary action should be taken.

"In this particular case, it is unimaginable that a person who works as head of a government institution is working against the [same] institution after having applied for that position by election, "says the letter.

The committee coordinator said that if the accusations were even partially true, the government needed to learn a lesson, avoiding placing people in positions of authority with a "clear conflict of interest."

He suggested that if a professional wishes to work for another organization, he should be allowed to proceed with the delegation.

This, he said, would help reduce disputes between different rival institutions (CPSP and medical universities) and provide a more conducive professional environment for training, with healthy competition, rather than pulling the legs and trying to blur the image of others and from the country. .

Posted on Dawn, September 18, 2019

Source: https://www.dawn.com/news/1505829/technical-body-head-for-probe-into-sacking-of-medics-by-gulf-states

LAHORE: The head of a technical committee formed by the Punjab government to identify the factors that led to the plundering of hundreds of Pakistani MS / MD doctors by Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, strongly recommended "an impartial and transparent investigation[into the matter] fix the employees on duty behind this conspiracy. "
