I do not expect a major break in the current Saudi oil policy."

His appointment further concentrates power within the king's family. His other son, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, controls the main levers of power and is the heir to the most powerful throne in the Arab world.

A younger son, Prince Khalid bin Salman, is Deputy Minister of Defense.

Aramco is intensifying efforts to float around five percent of the company, seeking to raise up to $ 100 billion based on a $ 2 billion valuation of the entire company.

But low oil prices have left some investors in doubt that Aramco is really worth so much. The impossibility of reaching a valuation of $ 2 billion as desired by Saudi rulers is widely considered the reason why the OPV, previously scheduled for 2018, was delayed.

The planned IPO is the cornerstone of a reform program planned by the crown prince to keep the Saudi economy away from its dependence on oil.

Saudi Aramco has not announced where the quotation will take place, but London, New York and Hong Kong have competed for a portion of the much announced IPO.

Posted in Dawn, September 9, 2019

Source: https://www.dawn.com/news/1504333/saudi-king-appoints-son-as-energy-minister

RIAD: King Salman of Saudi Arabia replaced the energy minister on Sunday with one of his children, state media said, in a major shock as OPEC falters due to low oil prices.
