They said he refused and never agreed. They said they would not allow him to do so. He told them, &#8216;If you can build 90 million bunkers for 90 million Iranians, then only then will I be ready to build one myself.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Iranian officials also said the same question was asked of Ali Khamenei&#8217;s family, with the supreme leader saying, &quot;I am the leader of the country, and leaders must be equal to the marginalized and the poor. If I live a special life for myself, I can no longer be the leader of this country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<article>\n<p><iframe height=\"500\" title=\"\" width=\"648\" layout=\"\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-top-navigation allow-top-navigation-by-user-activation\" allowfullscreen=\"\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.indiatoday.in\/share\/video\/embed\/31132?native=1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"custom-video-iframe-cls multy-video-iframe\"> <\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/article>\n<h3>&#8216;Khamenei wanted martyrdom&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>Asked about the meaning of martyrdom in Islam, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, Illahi said martyrdom is considered one of the highest virtues in Islamic teachings, adding that Khamenei has long aspired to martyrdom and described it as the ultimate honor.<\/p>\n<p>This aide said, &quot;I remember him repeatedly saying a few months ago, &#8216;I&#8217;m old now, I&#8217;m 86 years old, and I&#8217;m afraid I&#8217;ll die in the hospital, in an accident, or from a fever. I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s going to work. I&#8217;d rather be a martyr.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Ilahi, Khamenei considers martyrdom more valuable than his own life.<\/p>\n<p>He explained, \u201cThe martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei and the shedding of his blood are more valuable than the continuation of his life,\u201d and \u201cHis martyrdom first brought harmony between Shia and Sunni Muslims.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe second thing his martyrdom brought to society was to expose the injustice of some countries attacking others without cause.
