Following their great success Pokemon Go<\/em>Nintendo and Niantic are finally starting to collaborate on another augmented reality (AR) game.<\/p>\n

The game will build on Nintendo’s success. Pikmin<\/em> franchise, but details beyond that are somewhat scarce. In an announcement on Monday, March 22, the Japanese entertainment giant said only that the title would be released "later this year” and would include "activities designed to encourage walking and make the activity more enjoyable.”<\/p>\n

Without saying much, Niantic suggested on Twitter, "Imagine exploring the world with all your friends, including new ones, through the wonders of AR.” Pikmin<\/em> friend!”<\/p>\n

Niantic is based in San Francisco, but this collaboration will be the first title created at the Tokyo studio, which opened three years ago.<\/p>\n

Digital Trends’ gaming expert Joseph Yaden explains Nintendo’s long history.
