We did. In 2015, Country Life magazine compiled a list of 39 characteristics that make up a modern gentleman.<\/strong>And we took them off lightly. It’s the same! <\/strong>No, it doesn’t. Because that was 10 years ago. The 2015 rules are now completely obsolete. For example, one of them was \u201cCooks omelettes to die for\u201d and another was \u201cGood with waiters.\u201d Ridiculously old stuff.<\/p>\n

great. So what are the 2025 rules? <\/strong>One of them is that \u201cyou can poach and scramble eggs without fuss.\u201d Another is \u201cLearn and use your waiter\u2019s name.\u201d<\/p>\n

oh<\/strong> Wow, yeah, it\u2019s really different. <\/strong>Listen, do you really expect the entire definition of gentlemanliness to be completely overhauled every ten years? Almost no. There’s something inherently timeless about being a gentleman, and this mostly has to do with cooking eggs and not being rude to restaurant staff.<\/p>\n

There has to be something new though. <\/strong>Ah, yes. Not wearing a tank top to the gym is one of them.<\/p>\n

Certainly it’s less about being a gentleman and more about not wanting to look sweaty.<\/strong> fool.<\/strong> Or as the saying goes, \u201cNever run for office in public.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nothing? What if your dog is chasing a deer in the park?<\/strong> If you are a gentleman, you will maintain a walking pace. The deer will appreciate your majesty. How about this? \u201cI believe Roger Moore is the best 007.\u201d<\/p>\n

That’s not gentlemanly, it’s just the opposite of bar talk.<\/strong> And these are: \u201cpathologically punctual,\u201d \u201cknows when to call it a night,\u201d and \u201cdoes not modify restaurant orders.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, they all sound very reasonable.<\/strong> Being a modern gentleman means being able to get things done with a minimum of fuss. Efficient, friendly and confident are what make a gentleman.<\/p>\n

And I have a terrible opinion of the long-running spy franchise.<\/strong> Yes, that too. But remember, the final rule of modern life is "don’t take anything too seriously.”<\/p>\n

Consider me educated. So the same period is 2035?<\/strong> entirely. Be prepared for rules like \u201cDo not use AI exclusively to communicate with loved ones\u201d and \u201cIn the class war that is surely engulfing the planet by now, you can smile at strangers regardless of their position.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it’s about being able to cook eggs. <\/strong>of course. Minimal cooking techniques never go out of style.<\/p>\n

Say something like: <\/strong>\u201cHello. I am a modern gentleman.\u201d<\/p>\n
