Bethesda:<\/strong> Marriott International, the world's largest hotel chain, said Wednesday it is throwing away disposable toiletries as part of its plan to reduce environmental impact.<\/p>\n

But instead of moving to a refillable wall-mounted dispenser, the hotel turns to a larger pump action bottle containing about 10-12 times as much as a shampoo, conditioner or bath gel.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In fact, many U.S. municipalities now send most of their currently marked plastic to landfills or incinerators.<\/p>\n

Arne Sorenson, Group Chairman and CEO, said, \u201cCustomers are pursuing changes that will make a meaningful difference in the environment without sacrificing the quality of service and experience we expect from our hotel.<\/p>\n

The chain is expected to prevent about 500 million small bottles from being transferred to landfills, a 30 percent reduction in current use of convenience plastics per year.<\/p>\n
