Pakistani Supreme Court President Asif Saeed Khosa responded on Wednesday to recent comments by Prime Minister Imran Khan about the judiciary, saying it was the government that allowed former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to travel abroad to receive medical treatment .<\/p>\n
"Do not make fun of us with respect to the powerful," said the president of the Supreme Court, adding that all are equal before the law. He was speaking at the opening ceremony of a mobile application, a call center, a complete video link facility in five Supreme Court rooms, a research center and an improved website to facilitate litigants and lawyers.<\/p>\n
He said that permission to go abroad was granted to Nawaz by the prime minister and that the Lahore High Court (LHC) had only established the modalities.<\/p>\n
While speaking at a ceremony in Havelian on Monday, Prime Minister Imran had asked the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Khosa, and the puisne judge of the Supreme Court judge, Gulzar Ahmed, to present themselves and restore public confidence in the judicial power.<\/p>\n
In his speech, the prime minister also said that rapid and rapid justice for all would lay the foundations of the country's new system based on the principles of "Riasat-i-Madina." He said that a disparity was perceived in the way in which powerful and common people were treated in the judicial system of the country. He said that the only powerful element in the eyes of the judiciary is the law and not just any individual. "I don't want to comment on the particular case that the respected prime minister was referring to, but he would know that he himself gave permission for someone to go abroad. He added: "Don't compare us with the judiciary that existed before 2009; the judiciary after that year is different, independent. For us, nobody is big, small or powerful.<\/p>\n

Judge Khosa said that if a certain individual receives a lot of projection in the media, it should not be understood that it means that the 3.6 million other people whose cases were decided by the judiciary must be forgotten.<\/p>\n
"To say that there is some imbalance [in how the powerful and the weak are treated by the judiciary] … should be reconsidered, "he emphasized. <\/p>\n
He said that using his current remedies, the judiciary has put an end to the 25-year delay in criminal appeals in the Supreme Court, while, thanks to the model courts, there is no pending murder trial in 17 districts of the country.<\/p>\n
