WASHINGTON: The United States has said that the opening of the Kartarpur corridor is a positive example of neighbors working together for mutual benefit.<\/p>\n
In a video message posted on Saturday afternoon, State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus called the opening of this new border crossing an "important step towards promoting greater religious freedom."<\/p>\n Highlighting the importance of this "impressive" project, Ms. Ortagus said in her brief statement: "The State Department welcomes the opening of a new border crossing between India and Pakistan, the Kartarpur corridor." We see this as a positive example of neighbors who work together for mutual benefit.<\/p>\n \u201cThe newly opened corridor is a step towards promoting greater religious freedom. It allows Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit the Gurdwara Kartarpur sahib, an important Sikh cult house just inside the border with Pakistan. <\/p>\n This impressive project will transform a three-acre remote site through a sensitive international boundary.<\/p>\n \u201cCongratulations to India and Pakistan for this initiative. And our best wishes to the pilgrims who cross for the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak.
