After updating our recently published Google help page, it turns out that incognito mode for Google Maps is finally only available to Android users.<\/p>\n
For those of you who don't know, this feature provides a quick access privacy option that prevents your Google Account from storing your location data.<\/p>\n
The only other way to clear your location data is to manually delete the data or set your app to delete it regularly. Therefore, using incognito mode makes the procedure much easier.<\/p>\n
However, as Google mentioned in the help page, "Setting up incognito mode on maps doesn't affect how your activity is used or saved by Internet providers, other apps, voice search, and other Google services."<\/p>\n
Incognito mode can be activated in three simple steps.
1.Open the Google Maps app
2. Tap your profile picture
3. Tap "Turn on incognito mode."<\/p>\n
Google said new features will be rolled out in phases. If not, make sure your Android device has the latest version of the app loaded and try again in a day or two.<\/p>\n
If you always enable incognito mode, Google won't be able to customize your map with items like recommended places based on previous movements. Also, features such as offline maps, sharing my places, and location will not work if you have incognito mode turned on.<\/p>\n
Finally, if incognito mode is enabled, Google Assistant microphones will not be available for navigation, but "OK Google" will continue to work in the usual way. "Google Assistant is a system feature that doesn't belong to incognito mode in incognito mode, so the information you share is stored as usual," the company website said.<\/p>\n
It is not yet known when iOS users will be able to use this feature, but it will be updated every time it is released.<\/p>\n
Google already offers incognito mode options for the Chrome web browser and YouTube, but the implementation has caused controversy in some quarters.<\/p>\n
