A special court in Islamabad postponed the hearing of a high treason case against former retired president Gen Pervez Musharraf until November 19, after the fugitive's lawyer asked the court to do so. <\/p>\n
Earlier this month, the court had declared that it would hear the case on a daily basis as of October 24 (today). At a previous hearing in September, the court also approved the same order saying that the proceedings in the treason trial would resume daily from October 8. <\/p>\n
While listening to the case today, a three-member bank headed by Judge Waqar Ahmad Seth summoned the secretary of the interior at the next hearing. <\/p>\n
At the beginning of the hearing, an application was filed on behalf of Musharraf's lawyer, Raza Bashir, for the postponement of the hearing due to his health. According to the statement, Bashir was unable to appear in court due to dengue. The reason was granted. <\/p>\n
The previous hearing of the case on October 8 was also postponed for the same reason at the lawyer's request. <\/p>\n
However, the court made it clear that this was the last chance and that an additional delay would not be granted. <\/p>\n
Judge Seth commented that the government terminated the services of the entire prosecution team in the case.<\/p>\n
"Can the government terminate the services of the prosecution team in this way?" the judge asked. <\/p>\n
Judge Seth asked the prosecutor Dr. Tariq Hassan if he had received any notification in this regard, to which the prosecutor replied that he had not received any notification but had heard a rumor.<\/p>\n
Judge Nazar Akbar ordered the prosecutor to continue performing his duties until he receives a notification. <\/p>\n
The court summoned the secretary of the interior to explain under what law the prosecution team was separated from the case.<\/p>\n
The president of the Supreme Court of Peshawar (PHC), Seth, was tasked to hear the case from the federal government after the retirement of Judge Tahira Safdar, who previously headed the court.<\/p>\n
The trial for high treason against the former military dictator for ending the state of emergency on November 3, 2007 has been pending since December 2013.<\/p>\n
He was registered in the case of treason in December 2013. He was charged on March 31, 2014, and the prosecution had presented all the evidence to the special court in September of the same year. However, due to litigation in appeal forums, the former military dictator's trial was delayed and he left Pakistan in March 2016.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/pre>\n<\/pre>\n
