Bangladesh FENI \u2013 On Thursday, 16 pastors were sentenced to death for murdering a Bangladeshi teenager who did not withdraw her charges of sexual assault against her principal.<\/p>\n
Nusrat Jahan Rafi was abducted with kerosene and fired on April 6 after complaining of sexual harassment to the principal of a rural Islamic seminary.<\/p>\n
After being arrested for alleged harassment in a court in the southern coastal city of Feni, the pastor who ordered a brutal murder in prison was sentenced to death.<\/p>\n
Others included some students, including activists from the ruling Awa US League party and two women (including those who participated in the murder or kept the doors of the seminary).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe verdict proves that no one can avoid murder in Bangladesh. Hafez Ahmed told reporters after ruling in a crowded court.<\/p>\n
Raffi was dragged to the roof of the seminary in Sonagazi, forcing the attackers to withdraw their complaints to the police.<\/p>\n
When she refused, she was tied up and used as kerosene and burned. She burned 80{7be40b84a6a43fc4fae13304fce9a2695859798abfc41afd127b9f8b21c5f9c5} of her body and died in the hospital four days later.<\/p>\n
Her death provoked fear throughout the country as protesters in the capital, Dhaka, protested for "preliminary punishment" for murderers.<\/p>\n
The murder put pressure on Sheikh Hanna to do more to protect women, and the government ordered the establishment of a sexual violence prevention committee in about 27,000 schools.<\/p>\n
