QUETTA: Security forces thwarted an attempted terrorist attack on Friday, killing a possible suicide bomber during an exchange of gunfire, while another attacker was immolated during a search operation in the Loralai area. <\/p>\n

Two Frontier Corps soldiers, Abdul Latif and Mohammad Sharif, were also injured in the incident and then moved to the Combined Military Hospital, Loralai. <\/p>\n

Official sources said FC personnel posted at a checkpoint in the Killi Kawar area on the outskirts of the city of Loralai, near Loralai University, told two men who were riding a motorcycle to stop. But instead of stopping, they opened fire on security forces. <\/p>\n

According to sources, the suspects tried to escape and took refuge near a seasonal river. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. <\/p>\n

During the next encounter, an alleged suicide bomber was killed while another detonated the explosives attached to his jacket. <\/p>\n

An official from the Anti-Terrorism Department, who had joined the paramilitary soldiers in the operation, said both militants wore suicide jackets and apparently planned to attack some important place in Loralai. <\/p>\n

However, he said, security forces had thwarted the terrorist attempt by taking immediate action against suicide bombers. <\/p>\n

Authorities said weapons and ammunition were seized, including grenades, AK-47 assault rifles and rounds. <\/p>\n

The Bomb Elimination Squad collected evidence of the site. <\/p>\n

Loralai has witnessed half a dozen terrorist attacks this year that have claimed the lives of more than a dozen people, including police personnel. The Frontier Corps training center, the DIG office and Police Lines were among the places to which it was headed in Loralai.<\/p>\n
