The royal couple thanked the initiatives undertaken by the Pakistani government to combat climate change and alleviate poverty, the statement added. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"5da5df6dc5e23\">School visit, Margalla Trail 5<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"media  one-half  palm--one-whole  media--right\"><figcaption class=\"media__caption\">Prince William and Kate Middleton with students of Model College for Girls in Islamabad.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Early in the day, the couple began their commitments on the second day of their five-day trip to Pakistan with a visit to the Islamabad Girls Model College, University Colony, Tuesday morning, where they interacted with the staff and the students and visited classrooms <\/p>\n<p>The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who are strong advocates for the education of girls, were welcomed by teachers and children upon arrival at school.<\/p>\n<p>Clips shared by British media show one of the schoolgirls telling William that they were &quot;fanatics&quot; of his mother, Diana, princess of Wales. &quot;That&#39;s very sweet of you. I was also a big fan of my mother,&quot; he replied with a smile. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"media  one-whole  palm--one-whole  media--stretch  media--uneven media--embed\">\n<\/figure>\n<p>After their visit to the school, they arrived at Trail 5, Margalla Hills to attend an event on environmental protection. The British High Commissioner in Pakistan, Thomas Drew, was also present on the occasion. <\/p>\n<p>The excitement accumulated before his arrival, with the trend &quot;#RoyalVisitPakistan&quot; on Twitter and television stations transmitting images of real historical visits, including one of Prince William&#39;s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth in 1961.<\/p>\n<p>Some rickshaw drivers in Lahore and Rawalpindi, a garrison town next to Islamabad, painted their vehicles with the Pakistani and British flags.<\/p>\n<p>The five-day visit, which will end on October 18, was organized at the request of the Office of Foreign Affairs and the Commonwealth of the United Kingdom (UK).<\/p>\n<p>According to a brochure from Kensington Palace, the British royal couple will visit Islamabad, Lahore, Gilgit-Baltistan and rugged border regions to the west.
