The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton met with Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The couple, who are the first royals to officially visit Pakistan since Prince Charles and his wife Camilla visited the region in 2006, were received by the prime minister at the Prime Minister's House, where a lunch was offered in honor of the guests. <\/p>\n
William's late mother, Diana, was a friend of the prime minister and visited Pakistan twice (1996 and 1997) to help raise awareness and funds for the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital.<\/p>\n Before meeting with the prime minister, the couple was received by President Arif Alvi and his wife Samina Arif in Aiwan-i-Sadr.<\/p>\n Middleton, who previously wore a royal blue Kurta<\/em>, changed to a green and white set for formal receptions. <\/p>\n The royal couple was accompanied by Thomas Drew, the British High Commissioner in Pakistan; Simon Case, the Duke's chief private secretary; and Christian Jones, communications secretary of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.<\/p>\n The president praised visiting dignitaries for their efforts to raise awareness about mental health, climate change and poverty alleviation, said a press release from the president's secretariat. <\/p>\n The Duke of Cambridge thanked the president for the warm welcome and hospitality he and his entourage were given. The royal couple thanked the initiatives undertaken by the Pakistani government to combat climate change and alleviate poverty, the statement added. <\/p>\n Early in the day, the couple began their commitments on the second day of their five-day trip to Pakistan with a visit to the Islamabad Girls Model College, University Colony, Tuesday morning, where they interacted with the staff and the students and visited classrooms <\/p>\n The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who are strong advocates for the education of girls, were welcomed by teachers and children upon arrival at school.<\/p>\n Clips shared by British media show one of the schoolgirls telling William that they were "fanatics" of his mother, Diana, princess of Wales. I was also a big fan of my mother," he replied with a smile. <\/p>\n After their visit to the school, they arrived at Trail 5, Margalla Hills to attend an event on environmental protection.
