Police said Wednesday they arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the murder of a third-year medical student at Hamdard University in Karachi last week.<\/p>\n
Misbah, 24, was killed by armed motorcyclists on October 3 near her home on Rashid Minhas Road when she waited in the car with her father, Athar Anwar, a university team bus.<\/p>\n
"We lost a future doctor at the hands of Afghan scavengers and street criminals," said SSP Azfar Mahesar, in the city's eastern district.<\/p>\n
At a press conference in his office, the senior officer said that a joint police team set up under the instructions of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) who oversees the east side managed to arrest the suspect with the help of "technical evidence." Police also confiscated a mobile phone taken from the victim's father and the motorcycle used in the crime.<\/p>\n
According to SSP Mahesar, the detained suspect, along with his escape associate, had shot down the medical student during a robbery. He was a scavenger until a year ago and later started stealing batteries from vehicles. <\/p>\n
He, along with his other accomplices, had been committing street crimes since the last five months, the officer added.<\/p>\n
During an initial investigation, the suspect had "confessed" to having committed street crimes in Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Mobina Town, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Sharea Faisal, Bahadurabad, Aziz Bhatti, Sachal and the highway area.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Sindh police general inspector, the additional general inspector of Karachi and DIG East announced cash rewards and certificates of recognition for the police party.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/pre>\n<\/pre>\n
